Sydney Ballenger’s path into home visiting began at the University of Delaware, where she majored in psychology and minored in human development and family science and women and gender studies. She knew she wanted to work with children and families — she just didn’t yet know how.
Prevention with Purpose: How Mario Drain Is Changing the Future for Milwaukee Families
Mario Drain serves as a Fatherhood Involvement Specialist and home visitor with the City of Milwaukee Health Department through the DAD (Direct Assistance for Dads) Project, a father-focused home visiting program that operates within the city limits of Milwaukee. Using the Parents as Teachers evidence-based curriculum, he works primarily with fathers — many of whom are navigating parenthood for the first time.
Celebrating Excellence in Home Visiting: Wendy Welch Named 2026 National Home Visitor of the Year
Wendy Welch’s journey into home visiting began after seven years of teaching elementary school. Following a family relocation back to Idaho, she took time off to raise her young children. A friend encouraged her to consider a part-time home visiting position, recognizing her background as an educator. Initially hesitant, Wendy quickly discovered the profound impact of home visiting and has never looked back.
National Home Visitor of the Year: Sanquinita Martin’s Commitment to Supporting Families
For more than two decades, Sanquinita Martin has dedicated her career to supporting families and strengthening communities across upstate South Carolina. Now serving as a Lead Home Visitor with The Parenting Place through the Healthy Families America model, Martin’s work has earned national recognition as one of five recipients of this year’s National Home Visitor of the Year honor.

Supervisor Practices in Reflective Supervision-Home Visiting
The Office of Planning, Research & Evaluation, An Office of the Administration for Children & Families (OPRE) has posted the manual (and related materials) for the Supervisor Practices in Reflective Supervision–Home Visiting (SuPRS–HV) measure – which is a short, free, self-report measure of reflective supervision for the home visiting workforce. The SuPRS-HV measures both the content discussed and the reflective practices used during a single reflective supervision session.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again—we hear you loud and clear. We’ve taken a critical look at our quizzes, pre-assessments, and certification questions, and we know we can do better. Right now, we are actively working on a full overhaul. We’ve eliminated the wait period between exam attempts AND we’ve developed a facilitated study group for more support preparing for the National Family Support Certification Exam.

Prepare confidently for the National Home Visitor Certification Exam with our Facilitated Study Group—a guided, supportive space designed to help you succeed. Sessions provide strategies for how to study effectively, insights into what to expect on exam day, and opportunities to strengthen your understanding of key terminology and core concepts. We’ve Reached Over 50,000 Registered Learners!
Can you believe the Institute has exceeded over 50,000 registered learners in September 2025? WooHoo! We have registered learners in every pocket of this country. It is still surprising when we hear from a home visiting person that they didn’t know about us. Help spread the word in your community. Most of what we offer is available at no cost to the learner. As budgets continue to get tighter, we offer a cost effective solution to professional development needs and decades of experience focused on the home visiting workforce.
Customized Solutions
The Institute offers customized solutions for home visiting organizations. In this past year we have: Developed state specific digital badges; Provided conference keynotes; Provided technical assistance as an organization was tripling their home visiting reach; Provided technical assistance as an organization was offering home visiting for the first time; Supported states that were implementing the certification exam into their professional development system; Served on state legislative panels as home visiting workforce experts; Hosting or linking your professional development materials on our learning platform; Provided creative design support to develop logos, refresh websites and develop PowerPoint templates; Provided technical assistance to states to link their professional development registry with the Institute (IAFSP) AND MORE!

2025 Home Visiting Yearbook
The NHVRC created the Home Visiting Yearbook to present the most comprehensive picture available of home visiting on the national and state levels. Since its launch in 2017, the Home Visiting Yearbook has become a go-to resource for multiple audiences interested in serving children and families.
New HHS Study Finds Home Visiting Services Improve Family Well-Being
New findings from the Mother and Infant Home Visiting Program Evaluation (MIHOPE) study. The MIHOPE study highlights the long-term benefits to children and families participating in federally funded, evidence-based home visiting services through the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program.
